Event Ticket FAQs and Refunds

eclectic games Event Tickets FAQs

We run events and tournaments in our store’s games room most evenings and most weekend days!

See our events schedule & Buy event tickets

How do I buy my ticket?

Event tickets can be purchased in-store or through our website.

Where do I find the tickets on the website?

Tickets can be found under the Event Tickets tab on our website at the top of the homepage (or the menu button in the top left if viewing on mobile).

Sometimes we run multiple events for the same game, such as for pre-releases. Please ensure you’re buying your ticket for the right timeslot!

How far in advance can I buy my ticket?

We will make tickets for the next instance of our regular weekly events available a week in advance. For example, if the event runs on a Thursday evening, tickets for the next event will be available to purchase from the previous Friday morning. Tickets for Weekend events will usually be available further in advance but may vary on a case-by-case basis.

Can I buy tickets for myself and all my friends?

Yes, however, you will need to include the details of the other attendees in the delivery instructions section if checking out online so that we can add them to our events list.

What do I need to know for card game events?

Unless the event is a sealed event or one where the ticket clearly states that decks will be provided, as a general rule, you are expected to bring your own decks. However, we do have a lovely community and the players are often happy to help out a new player and lend them decks on the night. Join our Discord server to chat with the other players!

In order to distribute promotional products and participate in our events, all players are required to be signed up with the third-party platform run by the game's publisher. These are:

  • Magic The Gathering: Companion App
  • Star Wars Unlimited: Melee
  • Lorcana: Ravensburger Play Hub
  • Pokémon: Pokémon Trainer Central
  • Yu-Gi-Oh!: Yu-Gi-Oh! NEURON
  • Riftbound: UVS account & Riot account

I registered for the event on another site, do I still need to buy a ticket?

You will need to purchase your event ticket via our website or in-store in order to secure your place. Registering for the event on other platforms, such as Neuron or UVS, does not guarantee entry!

How much are tickets?

Generally, regular evening events will be £6. Events which have a substantial product requirement such as Draft or Sealed format card tournaments, or which attract a particular level of prize support or staff overhead, will have a ticket price that reflects this.

Will I be sent a physical ticket?

Your proof of purchase is all that’s necessary to gain entry to our events. If you’re purchasing your ticket via the event tickets on our website, you will receive your proof of purchase immediately after check out and via email.

If you’re purchasing your ticket in-store you will be given a paper receipt and we will also ask for your names to add you to the events list.

Can I cancel my ticket?

Yes! Our event refund policy:

  • Players who contact us prior to the day will get a full refund minus admin fees. Contact us here.
  • Players who cancel on the day but prior to the event will only get a refund if we can fill their space.
  • Players who do not turn up for the event: there is no refund.

What are the rules about attending events?

We cover this in our Games Room FAQs, but the main gist is: be nice and courteous to others and the room!

Are you wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, our games room is located downstairs and not wheelchair accessible.

What are the special rules for Prerelease Events?

Buying a Prerelease ticket means that you are committing to playing in our event. Players may not purchase tickets to take the kit without also playing in the event and are expected to play in the event with some exceptions (emergencies and problems with transport), in which case they may collect their kit after the event concludes only if we cannot fill their space. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis, however, we will always prioritise players in attendance.

Players cannot buy additional tickets to get extra kits, as this takes seats away from their fellow players.

Players who attempt to game the system by buying additional tickets to gain extra kits will have the additional tickets refunded minus a 10% admin fee. Repeated offences may lead to player bans.

Any decision by the event judges or the store staff is final.

Games Room Rules

By purchasing your ticket, you agree to follow these rules, and eclectic games reserve the right to remove you from the event for failing to do so when asked by staff. You will not be allowed entry to the games room without a ticket.

We're looking forward to seeing you in our games room soon!

Magic: The Gathering FAQs

Magic: The Gathering FAQs

I’ve never played, what are the rules of Magic: The Gathering?

MtG is an adversarial game where you pitch your wits and cards against others! You’ll be playing your unique deck of cards against one or more opponents with the aim of reducing the life counters of opponents from usually 20 to 0.

You start the game with a hand of seven cards and on a typical turn will draw one more card, play lands for mana, and then use that mana to cast spells and creatures to attack your opponents in the combat phase or buff your own creatures. When you’ve completed your turn, play moves to the next player and continues until all but one player are eliminated.

There is a great and comprehensive guide on the official MtG site, as well as this video.

We have a great community and people will help you out when you turn up and you can also get advice in our MtG Discord community!

Can I borrow any decks?

We don't have any decks in our library, however, we do have some starter decks and Commander decks for sale in our store.

What different MtG formats do you run?

We talk about the different events at greater length on our Magic: The Gathering page, but we usually run Commander on a Wednesday night, Draft of a recent set release on Fridays, as well as Friday Night Magic with a changing format of Pauper, Pioneer, and Modern.

We also hold prerelease events for new sets and run occasional store championships. More info on upcoming events is on our events calendar.

Do you sell single cards?

We only sell officially licensed packs, such as starter sets, booster packs, and pre-releases. We don't buy or sell single cards for any of our trading card games.

Do you buy or sell second-hand cards?

We don't buy or sell second-hand cards. Sometimes members of the community are looking for trades. Join our Discord server to see if they have a card you’re after! Please note that any trades are not under the purview of eclectic games.

Do you grade cards?

No, we don't operate an official trading card grading service.

Can I use 'proxies' or play test cards in my decks?

No, you cannot use proxies in the decks you’re playing with at eclectic games. Counterfeit cards, including home-printed copies of real Magic cards, are banned in all Wizards Play Network stores, including eclectic games.

Can I use banned cards?

We closely follow the official banned and restricted list set out by Wizards of the Coast and don’t allow any of them in decks played in our sanctioned events.

What rules enforcement level (REL) are your sanctioned events run at?

Most of our events are run at Regular REL, which prioritises education and fun over penalising players for mistakes.

Occasionally we run events at the stricter Competitive REL, e.g. Store Championships. This will be clearly marked in the ticket description and announced by the Head Judge at the start of the event.

Why have your prices gone up?

Most couriers have raised their prices at the beginning of the year which made our deliveries more expensive.

I'm not in the UK, can I order from you anyway?

Sorry, for now we are not offering deliveries outside the UK as the delivery charges are astronomical. If there's something you can't find elsewhere, we may be able to do a custom quote for you. Please get in touch.
