I have some questions!

Can I borrow any decks?

We don't have any decks in our library, however, we do have some starter decks and Commander decks for sale in our store.

Do you sell single cards?

We only sell officially licensed packs, such as starter sets, booster packs, and pre-releases. We don't buy or sell single cards for any of our trading card games.

Do you buy or sell second-hand cards?

We don't buy or sell second-hand cards. Sometimes members of the community are looking for trades. Join our Discord server to see if they have a card you’re after! Please note that any trades are not under the purview of eclectic games.

Do you grade cards?

No, we don't operate an official trading card grading service.

Can I use 'proxies' or play test cards in my decks?

No, you cannot use proxies in the decks you’re playing with at eclectic games. Counterfeit cards, including home-printed copies of real Magic cards, are banned in all Wizards Play Network stores, including eclectic games.

Can I use banned cards?

We closely follow the official banned and restricted list set out by Wizards of the Coast and don’t allow any of them in decks played in our sanctioned events.

What rules enforcement level (REL) are your sanctioned events run at?

Most of our events are run at Regular REL, which prioritises education and fun over penalising players for mistakes.

Occasionally we run events at the stricter Competitive REL, e.g. Store Championships. This will be clearly marked in the ticket description and announced by the Head Judge at the start of the event.

I’ve never played, what are the rules of Magic: The Gathering?

MtG is an adversarial game where you pitch your wits and cards against others! You’ll be playing your unique deck of cards against one or more opponents with the aim of reducing the life counters of opponents from usually 20 to 0.

You start the game with a hand of seven cards and on a typical turn will draw one more card, play lands for mana, and then use that mana to cast spells and creatures to attack your opponents in the combat phase or buff your own creatures. When you’ve completed your turn, play moves to the next player and continues until all but one player are eliminated.

There is a great and comprehensive guide on the official MtG site, as well as this video below:

What other rules do you have?

All players must follow our games room rules which basically means to be courteous to other players, the eclectic games staff, and the games room. Click here to read the full games room rules.

I have a question about buying tickets!

We have an extensive event tickets FAQs page which will hopefully answer your questions! Please also feel free to contact us!
