It's the 21st Century, and Catan is at a crossroads. Long gone is the agrarian society of the island's Viking ancestors. Today's Catanians need energy to keep society moving and growing, but pollution is wreaking havoc on the island.
You must decide: Invest in clean energy resources, or opt for cheaper fossil fuels, potentially causing disastrous effects for the island?
CATAN: New Energies is a new standalone game rooted in classic CATAN mechanisms of harvesting, trading, and building. New gameplay elements including power plants, energy tokens, and environmental events that add new strategies and stories to a familiar foundation.
Beautiful art by Ian O'Toole brings players from the age of the Vikings into the present day with a striking new rendering of the island of Catan.
In this memorable and meaningful standalone CATAN experience, you and your fellow players manage energy needs for your societies.
You’ll start with cheap fossil fuels that cause pollution events and interrupt resource production. But as you invest in renewable energy, pollution events are replaced with rewards for sustainable strategies. You’ll monitor and negotiate with fellow players to decrease pollution, which affects everyone.
As in real life, the most sustainable player does not always win, and as in any CATAN game, there are multiple paths to victory. But, if pollution levels remain too high for too long and the game ends in catastrophe, the player who has invested most in renewable energy wins.
In its essence, this CATAN variant highlights the importance of investment in renewables.

Patreon is a subscription-based membership platform used by creators, artists, organisations, and small businesses like eclectic games to create extra content or unique access. What does this mean for me? Do I have to subscribe?
No!
For the vast majority of people, the experience of coming to our store or events will not change. We will still be open seven days a week and still run our events. Patreon offers a more premium experience for people who are already firmly invested in supporting the store and want guaranteed preorders and early access to news and events that may sell out quickly.

What can I order?
Most items on our website can be ordered to your home. Please note that all of our event tickets are e-tickets only!
Can I just pick it up from your shop?
Yes! Please make sure you select the "I would like to collect my order in store" option during the checkout. You can see our opening hours and shop location on our contact page! If you are purchasing an event ticket as well, you will need to complete that as a separate order, as event tickets can't be selected for 'pickup'.
How much does it cost?
It is £7.50 for parcels up to 10kg.
Collecting your order from our shop is free!
When will my order arrive?
The majority of our parcels are shipped with a two-day tracked service by Royal Mail (Tracked 48). They are usually picked up the day after you've placed the order.
Please note: We no longer deliver to Northern Ireland.
Why have your prices gone up?
Most couriers have raised their prices at the beginning of the year which made our deliveries more expensive.
I'm not in the UK, can I order from you anyway?
Sorry, for now we are not offering deliveries outside the UK as the delivery charges are astronomical. If there's something you can't find elsewhere, we may be able to do a custom quote for you. Please get in touch.Returns
If you are not completely satisfied with your order, we guarantee to exchange any goods or refund the cost of the item, provided you contact us within 14 days of receiving your order.
Before returning unsatisfactory goods please contact us for a returns number.
PLEASE NOTE: Eclectic Games is not responsible for costs incurred in supplying or returning correctly supplied and undamaged goods, and we reserve the right to charge a handling fee of up to 25% of the value of the goods. We recommend that returned items are sent by Recorded Delivery (or an alternative trackable delivery option), as we cannot be held responsible for goods lost in transit. In the case of wrongly supplied or damaged goods we will refund your postage costs.
Eclectic Games reserves the right to alter or amend the specifications and/or prices of the products offered for sale, or withdraw them completely without prior notice.
