The shop is located in Union Street, a small street that links the main pedestrianised shopping streets of Broad Street and Friar Street, and named for the function it performs - uniting Broad and Friar Streets. Known locally as 'Smelly Alley' , the street is home to a number of independent businesses including ourselves. eclectic games is located about half way down on the left hand side as you approach from Broad Street, between Shakeaway and Holland & Barrett.
Many of the bus routes in town stop along Friar Street, just at the bottom of the street from us. Specific details of times and routes can be found at the Reading Buses homepage.
The largest and probably most convenient car park to the shop is the Oracle Riverside. This is particularly recommended if you are planning to attend one of our evening events, as the fee for 12 hours from 6pm to 6am is only £3.50. Do not park in the Oracle Holybrook car park instead as this shuts around 30 minutes after the shops close and you will get locked in after around 8 pm! The all day parking rate during the day or for weekend events is substantially more and you may well be better off looking for alternatives.
There is sadly no free parking to be had in Reading these days, but there are moderately priced options available with some of the town centre car parks. Other 24 hour options include Broad Street Mall, Garrard Street, Queens Road, or the Station car park. Broad Street Mall is the other closest option to the Oracle, and at weekends offers £6 all day parking - access from Castle Street, turning left just past the police station and magistrates court.
For long term all day parking, especially for weekend events, the park and ride at the Madejski Stadium offers good value. Buses run throughout the day, taking around 10 minutes, departing every 10-15 minutes during weekdays and around every 30 on Saturdays. The last bus back leaves about 21:30 from the station, and you will want to use either the St. Mary's Butts stop outside Broad Street Mall or the Station Road stop as the closest to the shop. From the Oracle:
From the Minster Street exit, walk past John Lewis along Chain Street towards Broad Street. As you reach Broad Street, Union Street is almost opposite the Chain Street exit on the far side of the pedestrianised area. We are located about half way down on the left hand side as you approach from Broad Street, between Shakeaway and Holland & Barrett.
From Broad Street Mall:
Exit onto Broad Street and walk towards the pedestrianised town centre. Union Street is about 100m along Broad Street on the left hand side as you approach from the Broad Street Mall end.
From the station:
To reach us from the station, head out of the main entrance and along Station Road. Turn right onto Friar Street, and continue for a little over 50m before turning left into Union Street. The Friar Street end of Union Street is flanked by the SCUK bicycle shop and the C-Mart Oriental supermarket. We are about half way along on the right hand side, between Holland & Barrett and Shakeaway.
From the old shop location:
We moved from our previous location at 36 Market Place in the old Butter Market at the end of September 2015 and are now closer to the town centre in Union Street. If you have shown up at the old location and are trying to reach us, head towards the main pedestrianised street (Broad Street) and turn right at Costa Coffee. Union Street is three streets along on the right, after Cross Street and Queen Victoria Street. We are located about half way down on the left hand side as you approach from Broad Street, between Shakeaway and Holland & Barrett.
